National Police Memorial Day – 27th September 2020

The below has been circulated by Reverend Canon David Wilbraham MBE, National Police Memorial Day Co-ordinator

As we indicated in our previous newsletter, sadly, current circumstances mean that we cannot physically gather in the way we usually would to mark National Police Memorial Day and to share memories and support each other. However, we remain committed to our NPMD on Sunday 27th September. You may choose to join family, friends, and colleagues to watch the service in a socially-distanced gathering, or you may watch it in your own homes in quiet reflection.  The service will be available from 3pm on 27th September.  You can access it through any PC, Laptop, Smartphone or tablet here which will take you to the website that is hosting our event at no cost to us.  You will be asked to provide your name and have the option to give an email address should you wish us to keep in touch.

There are several ways in which you can be involved in this event during the six remaining weeks and you can safely access further details by clicking on the blue underlined links.

  • You can visit the Tribute Wall to post memories and pictures of fallen police officers.
  • You can light a Virtual Candle in their memory.  This is hosted on the Polfed website.
  • You may wish to purchase one of our specially minted Challenge Coins which National Police Memorial Day, the Police Memorial Trust and the Police Roll of Honour Trust have jointly produced.  Should you purchase one (£10 each incl p&p) you may wish to hold it as an act of solidarity during the virtual Act of Remembrance.  These can be ordered now through the NPMD website.  You will find a link towards the bottom of the home page.
  • To end the day at 8.00 p.m. on 27th September you may wish to witness a nationwide visual spectacular when the skies are lit for our emergency services workers as the British Police Symphony Orchestra plays Rick Wakeman’s sparkling Dance of a Thousand Lights.  You can find more information on the BPSO website.

Finally, every year we receive generous donations through our envelope system.  This year we cannot do this and so we have set up a Just Giving page where you can safely make a donation should you wish to do so.

Please forward this to others you may know who would also be interested in this event.

With best wishes,

David
